Event:
US Pentagon on November 14th announced the killing of ISIL senior leader in Libya by US fighter jets targeting ISIL positions in Libya. It was the first airstrike in Libya targeted at the groups’s leader in the country
Analysis:
Senior ISIL leader in Libya Abu Nabil also known as Wissam Najm Abd Zay al Zubaydi was killed in US airstrikes in Libya. Abu Nabil is ruthless leader and was featured in the ISIL Coptic Christian execution video released in February 2015.
Nabil is an Iraqi national and had served as an al Qaeda operative for a longtime before he shifted allegiance to support the Islamic State.
The US airstrikes against Nabil succeeded another attack targeted at the notorious Islamic State militant Mohammed Emwazi known as ‘Jihadi John’ and is the first targeted at ISIL leaders in Libya.
Forecast:
Nabil was a very instrumental figure in the ISIL networks in Libya and the larger Maghreb region his death will significantly cut down its ability to meet the groups objectives in the region.
ISIL has considered Libya as very strategic for its objectives and Nabil’s death impedes recruitment of new members, establishment of new bases as well as planning and execution of attacks.
Following the Paris attack most western power have re-established their commitment towards the annihilation of the Islamic State and the death of Nabil distorts the safe have that the Takfiri was creating away from the heated war in Iraq and Syria.
