The United Nations Security Council on Friday 13th November unanimously approved a resolution on Burundi that condemns the senseless killings and threatened to impose heavy sanctions on Burundi.
The resolution called for Burundi to convene an all-inclusive and genuine inter-Burundian dialogue that will come up with a plan to end the violence and steer the African nation towards healing and reconciliation.
On the same day Washington sent a special envoy to Uganda to encourage talks that will end the bloodshed in Burundi.

Uganda was appointed by the East African Bloc to be the region’s representation and the head of the peace talks for Burundi since she plunged into crisis and violence.
Uganda’s President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni was appointed by the East African Bloc to lead the talks in Burundi meeting with leaders from both sides of the government in a bid to make an all-inclusive dialogue that would end the crisis in Burundi.
The UN Security Council last week held a meeting that approved a resolution on Burundi on Friday 13th November that threatened to impose very tough sanction on Burundi unless the country held an all-inclusive inter-Burundian dialogue to discuss the delicate situation.
The USA on the same day sent the regional envoy Tom Perriello (who is the U.S. envoy to Africa’s Great Lakes) that would advise Uganda and encourage talks geared towards ending the crisis that has left at least 240 people dead since it broke in April this year. Tom is expected to consult with Museveni on how revive the talks that have been previously marred by lack of co-operation and ‘slow movement’ on both sides of the government.
Burundi has welcomed the UN Security Council resolution expressing their desire and readiness to open dialogue with all the affected parties in a bid to save the country from plunging into a civil war or even genocide. The opposition has however called upon Burundi’s President Pierre Nkurunziza to set down.
