Afghan security forces have thwarted an assault by Taliban militants aimed at taking up a district in the eastern province of Laghman.
In a statement released by ministry of Defense on Saturday 17th October 2015, the militants carried out large-scaled coordinated assaults on Dawlat Shah District on Friday but the security forces managed to thwart the incursion.
The ground troops were back by air support overwhelming and pushing back the armed Taliban elements.
During the operation, the airstrikes and ground offensives left nine militants dead while 13 others were injured.
Afghanistan security forces have been engaged in military operations across the country in an effort to end the Taliban-led militancy and violence gripping the Asian nation.
