
United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) on Thursday October 8th reported hearing mortar bombs firing from the west bank of River Nile in the Upper Nile State in South Sudan.
UNMISS couldn’t independently confirm who were responsible for the mortar bombs but reported a very high number of internally displaced people seeking protection.
At least 260 people arrived from the west banks of the Nile. This according to the mission officials is the highest number of people seeking protecting they have received in a single day in the recent past especially since the peace-deal signing.
OSINT have reported a fresh wave of violence eruption in the west banks of river Nile in the Upper Nile State in the past few days. The area has also suffered dire humanitarian crisis with majority of the residents facing food scarcity.
Malakal civilian site houses more than 45,000 of the 185,000 domestically displaced people in South Sudan since the crisis erupted. Despite the peace-deal implementation suffering challenges the residents are hopeful that the youngest nation will reconcile and stabilize.
