OSINT SUMMARY
Sunday 4th October 2015, a major security operation was launched by joint security forces and Somali’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
The security operations conducted in the outskirt of Somali’s capital city Mogadishu and in some other districts saw dozens suspected Al Shabaab militants flushed from their hideouts.
According to NISA, the operation saw Al Shabaab secret cells in Garas-Baley locality being dismantled citing the operation will intensify until sleeper cells are completely neutralized. The move is aimed at cutting of breeding ground for violent Islamist extremism.
NISA forces have extended the operations to hunt down Al Shabaab militants in and outside Mogadishu.
Last week, in similar security swoop, the forces arrested more than ten Al Shabaab fighters after intensive hours of security operations in areas between Mogadishu and Afgooye.
Recently Somalia Security forces have intensified their operations in Mogadishu and its locality in effort to hunt down the remnants of the Al Qaeda affiliated members in Somalia.
Though the militants have significantly been weakened after SNA and AMISOM forces battled them out of key areas including Barawe, Kismayu, Bardhere and Diinsoor which they heavily relied on as a source of revenue and supplies, they are still conducting sporadic hit and run kind of attacks at government and allied forces.
