
MOGADISHU: Somalia National Army has got a New Somalia Chief of Defence Force. Maj. Gen. Mohamed Adan Ahmed is now the Chief of Defence Forces of the Somalia National Army was appointed on 3rd September 2015 and he was sworn on 24th September 2015.
Maj. Gen. Ahmed has taken over the reign of power from his predecessor Maj. Gen. Dahir Adan Elmi. The swearing in function was held the Defence headquarters in Mogadishu, Somalia.
The colorful occasion was graced by the Prime Minister Omar Abdirashid Sharmarke, the members of cabinet, top brass of Somalia National Army as well as Deputy Force Commander of AMISOM in-charge of Support and Logistics Maj. Gen Nakibus Lakara. Members of the diplomatic corps were also in attendance.
The new Somalia Chief of Defence Forces comes at time when the country has been hit by the Al Qaeda branch, the Al Shabaab trying to overthrow the international backed government and installing the Islamist sharia law.
The new Chief in his speech called for more support in terms of resource allocation to the national Army citing the significant role they are playing to bring in peace and stability to the country.
Army is a backbone of any country’s security and supporting the army with adequate resources is the only way the forces will effectively face the security challenges in Somalia.
The new military chief recognized the effort AMISOM troops have played in making sure Somalia returns to the path of peace and social-economic recovery.
He called for the two force units to strengthen their bond citing their cooperation would turn the military into a vibrant and much effective force to root-out the Al Shabaab insurgency in Somalia and even within East Africa.
Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Brigadier Gen. Abdirizak Khalif Elmi was also retiring and was replaced by Brigadier General Ali Bashe.
