
AMISOM troops and Somalia National Army continues to make successful gains with intensified campaigns against Al Shabaab militants in Hiiraan region of central Somalia.
The latest happened on Friday 25th September 2015 after the militants employed a guerilla assault on AMISOM and SNA camps in two villages just a few kilometers from Baladweyne. The joints forces reciprocated the assault killing 20 Al Shabaab militants and injuring several other fighters.
Al Shabaab have turned to crude war tactics whereby they hit and run kind of guerilla warfare but despite employing such tactics, AMISOM troops have established their grip, asserted their capability to successfully neutralize and preempt militant attacks with no or with zero casualties.
Efforts of the AU troops have been recognized by the Special representative of the AU Commission Chairperson to Somalia Maman Sidikou who reiterated the need to increase peace initiatives in order to realized stability in the war-torn Somalia.
On Thursday 24th September 2015 during the International Day of Peace celebrations, Sidikou argued the need to appreciate AMISOM troops’ bravery and deliberate efforts to shun violence and embrace peace. A bright future for Somalia depends on collaborative efforts,” Sidikou
