Residents of Karaan, one of Mogadishu’s districts have welcomed partnership extended by Somali Police Force and the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Police Unit.
The Partnership is aimed at bringing Police units and the communities together to strengthen security institutions, enhance security as well tackle crime.
The meeting has brought together diverse groups of people including traditional elders, women, youths and members of the business community.
The town hall meeting was hosted by the Karaan Deputy District Commissioner on Security and Political Affairs Mr. Salah Mohamed Muse together with officers from the SPF and AMISOM police units.
The hosts stressed on the importance of sharing information in aiding security officers in ensuring the population’s security.
Karaan Deputy District Commissioner urged the residents to embrace community policing. Civilians have a huge role to play in keeping their neighborhoods safe, secure and promote stability.
SUMMARY
The town hall meeting is one among many AMISOM programmes aimed to sensitize community resident’s responsibilities towards reducing crime.
The resident got an important sought item, the toll free line to connect the community and the police. This will encourage them to reach the authorities whenever they notice anything that is threat to security.
The toll free 888 number will really help the community as they can call for help,” said Mr. Salah Mohamed Muse.
AMISOM has conducted similar programmes at Hamar Weyne, Hamar Jajab, and Shibis among other places. The programmes have reported positive response as people now are viewing Police differently and can share intelligence and report crime willingly.
Captain Farah Abdullahi Mohamud, the Karaan District Deputy Police Station Commander noted the importance of continuous support from AMISOM citing constantly work with AMISOM Police has been beneficial both in terms of strengthening security as well as promoting the cooperation between the police and communities in ensuring law and order.
