Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari has sacked on top Defence chiefs; Army, Navy and air force and in their place appointed new ones in the first major step in the fight against Boko Haram takfiri terrorists in Nigeria.
The move to fire the chiefs comes after constant critics of their inability to lead the military to defeat the Islamist militants who are said to be responsible of over 10, 000 deaths and thousands of kidnappings in Nigeria.
The new chiefs will be on the fore front in the restructure and re-strategizing in the Nigerian military to aid in the tackling of the volatile Islamic State affiliated Boko Haram especially in the northeast of the country.
The fired chiefs include:
- National Security Adviser- Sambo Dasuki
- Chief of Defence Staff- Alex Badeh
- Chief of Army Staff- Kenneth Minimah
- Chief of Naval Staff- Adesola Amosu
- Chief of Air Staff- Usman Jibrin
The newly appointed chiefs include:
- Gen Tukur Yusuf Buratai- Chief of Army Staff
He was formerly in-charge of a multinational joint task force against the insurgents in Chad and comes from Borno state
- Major General Abayomi Gabriel Olonishakin- Chief of Defence Staff
He was the former head of army training in Nigeria
- Air Vice Marshal Riku Morgan- Chief of Defence Intelligence
- Major General Babagana Monguno- National Security Adviser
Forecast:
The new management is tasked with a very difficult job of tackling the Boko Haram who has spiked their attacks that have killed at least 400 people since Buhari accent to power.
Security analysts have expressed faith in the new strategy as the insurgency is losing ground and lack the earlier capability to fight the army as they have to retreat into the forest.
The multinational coalition has also flashed some officials including the commander in charge of weapons supply to the militia was arrested in Chad.
The new defense office, new equipment, Buhari’s anti-terrorism pledge will boost the Nigeria’s army morale that has been very low and wholesomely win the war the war against Boko Haram.
