Presence of Islamic State recruiters in East Africa pose a huge threat of rise in terrorism activities by militants within the region.
On Wednesday 2nd July 2015, Kenya’s Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU) arrested two alleged Islamic State recruiters believed to have crossed over to Kenya from Uganda.
Credible OSINT reports indicate that these men have been recruiting youths in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania to join ISIS, a deadly Islamic militia group with caliphates in Iraq and Syria.
Imminent ISIS Threat to East Africa
Kenya is already on high alert over terrorism threats and especially during this holy month of Ramadhan.
The Country’s forces are fighting Somali based Al Shabaab militia group who are trying to maintain active cells along Coastal regions and along the volatile Kenya-Somali border.
Al Shabaab has lately been seen to be warming up towards the Islamic State, a militant group generous in funding other terror groups which claim to be fighting Jihad. The scenario may worsen in East Africa and broader horn of Africa region if the 2 militant groups opt to work together towards a common terror front.
Kenyan security agents have been able to trail and intercept young men and women attempting to cross over to Syria with an aim of joining the Islamic State.
