Security ministers from African states have vowed to stage a united front in the war against terrorism in the continent. Speaking at a conference held in Nairobi, Kenya the ministers identified terrorism as a major peace, stability and sustainable development inhibitor in Africa.
The ministers were attending a regional conference aimed at countering violent extremism and measures of combating terrorism in Africa especially in the East Africa, North Africa as well as the Sahel.
The attendees of the conference who included, security ministers, scholars and diplomats unanimously agreed that the war against terrorism was a collective responsibility. It could only be tackled with shared intelligence and expertise to neutralize and eventually eradicate the militants.
The conference also addressed the root cause of the spread of terrorism and violent extremism such as governance lapses, youth unemployment, weak policies as well as high costs of living brought about by unstable economies.
Countries on the Horn Africa have already re-invented a collective war against the Somali based Al Qaeda affiliate Harakat Al Shabaab Al Mujahideen. Al Shabaab has been terrorizing the region. Sending troops to Somalia and at the same time sharing intelligence that help preempt attacks in the region.
Countries in the Sahel and North Africa resolved to re-initiate the war against the global terror networks like Al Qaeda and Islamic State that have found a haven in region to operate from.
The conference recommendations include not only fighting terrorism at the war zone but also decapitating them at the weak points and blocking the loopholes they exploit to thrive.
Political, economic and socio-cultural stability will inhibit the extremists from thriving as there will be no loopholes to exploit resulting to their neutralization.
Security being a collective responsibility and introduction alternative and sustainable means to fight terrorism in the continent will eradicate terrorism and end violent extremism.
*Chortle*. Violent ‘extremism.’ They are besotted with the same idiotic framing bias that infects the Washington establishment. One need not look to far into the history of many of these countries to see that they were established by ‘violent extremism.’
Long overdue. However they must pursue an African solution not American, European or Israeli, who advance their own colonialistic interests.
It sound so strange if some of our leaders do involved and they fund terrorists..
