Police has continued to narrow down on Al Shabaab militants believed to have been involved in Lamu attacks at an army camp. The operations has seen a number of the Somali based jihadists being arrested.
Thursday 25th June 2015, Police announced a major breakthrough after arresting a survivor of Lamu attacks on a KDF camp. Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett announced that the Police have in custody of British national connected with Al Shabaab militia intelligence gathering division.
Police Chief Boinett further revealed of yet another Briton of Somali descent Abdulhakim Abdulsamad was arrested in Gamba, Lamu County. The police also have custody of another terror suspect, Ali Ungala, Hussein Said Mwinyi who is a Tanzanian national. Other suspects, Khamis Swalleh and Benson Gesore Gisendu were all arrested in Garissa.
Meanwhile, the police continues with interrogation of these suspects to get more leads as the war against terrorism intensifies.
While briefing the media on security and counter terrorism milestones, IG Boinett lauded the partnership between members of the public and the police that so far has led to arrest 48 foreigners most of them linked to Al Shabaab terrorist group.
The arrests came at a time Kenya has raised alarm over the flow of foreign jihadists fueling violent extremism in the Horn of Africa region.
