Following the Garissa University College Massacre of 2nd, April 2015, the Kenyan government announced a perimeter security wall erection that will separate Kenya and Somalia with specific entry and exit points.
The 440 mile security wall is expected to cut across four counties; Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Lamu and will be installed with state-of-the art modern Surveillance equipment.
The construction of the wall is on course and upon completion it is expected to reduce terror attacks in Kenya by a very huge margin; this was echoed by NEP Regional Coordinator Mohamed Saleh.
The wall styled as anti-terror wall will be full proof with ditches, concrete barriers, fences and round the clock surveillance.
The main significance of erecting the wall is to reduce the exported terrorism, importing of recruits by the Al Shabaab from Kenya as well as smuggling of contraband material to Kenya.
The restricted and specific exit and entry points into Kenya will prevent the militia from conducting any attacks on Kenya as any and all people entering Kenya will be thoroughly screened.
Kenya has joined countries in the world that have legitimately endeavored in protecting their citizenry by erecting perimeter security wall and barriers to shield them from hostile neighbors like Jerusalem, Egypt-Gaza barrier, the Mexico- United States among others.
The construction of the wall has been lauded by the North Eastern Leaders as it will not only reduce insurgents’ entry and attacks but also illegal trading activities that cost their counties revenue.
