Armed with Soviet ear AK-47 assault rifles, they rounded up and shot dead 148 Christian college killing students.
The Kenya Defence Forces troops deployed and rescued 670 students.
Security-Disaster and Rapid response team RECCE squadron killed 3 of the attackers.
One attacker committed suicide.
Analysis:
The Somali based Islamist group Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen, intent was to mastermind a sectarian unrest pitting Christians against Muslims.
The operation did not succeed regardless of the high number of children killed.
Kenya is resilient and embraces religious tolerance. Though largely Christian dominated, the Republic of Kenya is not threatened by religious unrest.

Muslims Clerics in Kenya are currently working on a program that focuses in prevention of radicalization of Youths and isolating clerics who sponsor and indoctrinate youths to radical Islam.

The Garissa University Attack by Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen depicts a desperate group using asymmetry to stoke sectarian violence in Kenya.
Muslims condemned the attack citing the Quran verses that warn against killing of children. Al-Shabaab was certainly humiliated. Such failure often frustrates terrorists.
