Kenya security forces especially the Special Forces have been tasked with hunting of the militant Al-Shabaab operatives along the Kenya-Somali border. While this hunt is bearing fruits with dozens of the Somali based Islamists Harakat al-Shabaab al-Mujahideen being intercepted and apprehended as they attempt to cross to Kenya, the Government of Kenya on the other hand has also taken an initiative to erect a border wall in joint effort to secure her people from the terror group incursions.
While some experts saying this initiative will not 100% solve the Kenya’s security problems, the significance of erecting the barrier wall on the porous Kenya-Somali border has many pros that will come in handy in restoring the country’s security. Northeastern Kenya borders have become volatile over the years and serves as perfect entry points by the militant insurgents.

Incursions along Kenya-Somali border have been there for more than two decades and more rampant when the Somali’s Central Government collapsed in 1990s, the recent and frequent raids by the Al-Qaida linked terrorist group Al-Shabaab has triggered the Kenyan Government to take this bold step to commence the construction of the security wall.
The security wall will significantly reduce the increasing danger of terrorist crossing over to Kenya and in turn it will restore hope of Kenyans working in those areas and further to contain the insecurity that is about to cripple education in northeastern Kenya. The intent of the border wall will not limit people to conduct their daily businesses as there will be some open manned gates with security officials to conduct surveillance at these specific entry point and exit points but is to offer a comprehensive security solution.
The significance of erecting the Kenya-Somali border security wall cannot be underestimated and Leaders from Northeastern Kenya have lauded and welcomed the initiative noting it will serve a better purpose of reducing the number of terrorist insurgents crossing over and at the same time control the issue of the illegal border trade.
