Detectives in Kenya’s Isiolo county have taken into custody 4 suspected terrorists alongside their parents after they surrendered. The four surrendered following a media circulation instigated by the police of their photos as suspects in relation to the Dusit D2 attack in Nairobi on 15th January.
Officers probing the incident had previously released a list of six suspects who are believed to be armed and dangerous. The four Gaddafi alias Munene, Ali Abdi Kachora, Boru Abdi Bidu, and Ramadhan Wario Bonayo alias Rasho are among the six previously linked to the terror attack. Gaddafi who was the first to surrender with his parents who maintain that their son is not a terrorist and instead works for a firm in Nairobi. Didu Mohamed Fugicha alias Dingdong, also known as Duktur, Hussein Adan Hussein alias Etto are still on the run and believed to have fled to Somalia.
Intelligence has revealed that the six individuals were in communication with Salim Gichunge who led the 14 Riverside attack and are part of some of the most dangerous sleeper cells operation in Isiolo and the Northern Prefecture. In the past week, the intelligence and police have made major strides in arresting and tracking terrorists in the country especially stirred by the Dusit D2 attack in Kenya’s capital.
Moreover, the police are looking for a terrorist on top of its wanted list identified as Ibrahim Abdulrahman Mohamed alias Van Persie, who is based in Somalia. He is said to be a key recruiter and a facilitator for Isiolo recruits. Intelligence indicates that Van Persie targets Bodaboda operators and high school students with the lure and promise of money and a better life who are then used to conduct attacks against citizenry either in Kenya and or Somalia. They move from Isiolo to Moyale, into Takaba then Elwak in Mandera County before entering Somalia.
