As the fight against the ISIS intensifies counter measures to reduce their popularity and influence have been put in place. One of the major aspect that states are using is to preventing new recruits from travelling to countries in the Middle East especially teenagers.
In Australia, this month, over 200 suspected Jihadis have been prevented from travelling to Middle East among them teenage boys. Most of the teenagers that are attempting to fly to the Middle East are intercepted at airports and are always travelling without their parents’ knowledge.
Australia has attached counter terrorism units at 8 airports in the country since august and over 85,000 travelers have been questioned and 200 been prevented to fly out of the country on suspicions of they were headed to Iraq or Syria to fight with groups like the IS.
Australia has been a hub for the Islamic State recruitment and with the intensified counter terrorism measures the recruitment front of IS has been greatly affected.
While as the Australian government was tightening border security and investing more in countering extremism Border Protection Minister, Peter Dutton told the Australian people to be very vigilante.
According to Dutton IS was targeting the vulnerable and impressionable young people online and looking to brainwash them and deceive them into joining the ‘Death Cult’ as he referred to the Islamic State.
This is quite a blow to the already pressurized ISIS who are growing desperate to expand in number owing to the attacks waged against them from all over the world to replace the dead and wounded soldiers. This counter terrorism measures are giving hope that the fight against ISIS is a collective global duty and it is only temporary.
