Somali troops backed by ATMIS forces killed at least 17 Al-Shabaab terrorists in a new military operation that took place in the small town of Hawadley, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) north of the capital Mogadishu mid-week.
Military reports indicate that the operation was conducted by partners forces following on credible intelligence that the terrorists were gathered in an area under Hawadley possibly planning an attack. At least 17 terrorists were killed as per Ministry of Information.
Reports further indicate that, several senior members of Al-Shabaab, an Al-Qaeda-affiliated terrorist group, were among those killed in the military operation.
The Somali military backed by allied troops from ATMIS continues its operations against the terrorist also with support of locals. The latest military operations especially in central region of Somalia have seen dozens of terrorists killed in theater. For instance, joint military troops have intensified operations against Al-Shabaab terror group in central regions, including the Middle Shabelle and Hiran regions of Somalia.

Despite intensified military pressure from Somalia security forces and support by the allied partner troops, Somalia has been grappling with security threats for years, with Al-Shabaab being one of the main threats in the country.
