Sixteen al Shabaab militants were killed during an operation headlined by the Somali National Army (SNA) in Lower Shabelle. The security operation was conducted at Sham village near the recently liberated agricultural rich Barire and Awdhigle towns.
The terrorists had attempted to retake the strategic towns and villages as the Turkey-trained troops mount offensives to drive off the militants from the agricultural areas of Southern Somalia.
In the past fortnight, the SNA troops have retaken Awdhigle and several attacks by the al Shabaab to reclaim their lost territory. The vigor and frequency of attacks can be attributed to reinvigorated troops especially with new graduates that have skills and motivation to annihilate al Shabaab. It is also clear that SNA is steadily building its capacity to adequately fend off and attack head-on al Shabaab militants with minimal casualties.
