One person was killed and four others seriously injured after the convoy they were traveling in hit a landmine. The convoy was transporting government officials in the Hodan District of Somali’s capital Mogadishu.
The attack on the government officials is believed to be orchestrated by the al Qaeda affiliate, al Shabaab that has stepped up its attacks against government officials, especially in Mogadishu. While the group is yet to take responsibility for the attack, chatter on its channels indicate that the terror organization was in charge of the attack. The militant group has demonstrated its ability to inflict losses especially on government officials in the capital and goes to speak to a large number of active operatives in the capital.
Increased Al-Shabaab’s attacks suggest resurgence in Somalia and underline the threat the militant group continues to pose in the county and beyond. Though AMISOM and allied forces in Somalia have waged military campaigns against the militant group in support of the weak SNA, the military campaigns, however, have not succeeded in completely defeating and dismantling the terror group.
