Turkey is expected to launch her largest overseas military training facility in Somalia. The facility is set to open its doors and begin proper operations in September in a move set to enhance relations between the two countries. Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, Olgan Bekar welcomed members of the Turkish Armed Forces ahead of the official opening. The military base will be located in Jazeera district of Mogadishu and is expected to facilitate the training of soldiers from the various arms of the Somali security agencies.

200 Turkish troops are projected to train at least 10,000 soldiers at a time who will be housed in any of the three military schools. The military base began construction in 2015 on the 400-hectares land and cost approximately $50 million.

The Turkey-Somalia relations have been active since 2011 and Somalia has received over $1billion in aid and relief food for the anguished Somalis especially as a result of war and terror from the Al Shabaab militants.
