Latest reports from Somalia indicate that Somali Forces on Tuesday evening thwarted a major Al-Shabaab attack targeting an army outpost in the key town of Wajid. Wajid is located in Somali’s southwestern Bakool region.
According to Colonel Abdirahman Mohamed Osman (SNA), Somali Forces managed to foil a massive militant attack on Wajid. SNA forces countered the militants inflicting heavy losses on the attackers. Initial BDA indicate over a dozen militants were killed; other fighters retreated after being overpowered.
Corresponding reports from residents in Wajid town said blasts and gunfire was heard as dozens of armed militants attacked checkpoints manned by Somali forces with an intention of gaining entry to a military base but troops pushed them back with bodies of the militants reported on the street.
Al-Shabaab through their propaganda media outlets claimed they attacked Somali army base and AU peacekeepers outpost in the outskirts of Wajid.
