Kenya’s Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) Arrests 5 Youth en route Somalia to Join Al-Shabaab

Kenya’s Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU) managed to arrest five youth who on their way to Somalia to join Al-Shabaab militants.

Reports indicate that the five who are below the age of 20 were intercepted in Isiolo town.

Their arrest was made following intelligence tip-off. The youth hail from Tulluroba and Chechelesi estates.

The two estates had been in the news for some time now where dozens of youths are said to have travelled to Somalia to join the terror group.

The three of them were arrested Tuesday along Isiolo-Garba-Tula road near Garissa border while two others were arrested at Bute in Wajir County.

According to Isiolo County Commissioner, the five will be interrogated to provide more leads into their intentions. The suspects had been placed under surveillance after they begged for forgiveness. They are now assisting police in probing those behind recruiting youth in the County.
