Military intelligence reports show that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonated and decommissioned a National Youth Service excavator and injuring its operator in on Usalama road in Kiunga, Lamu County.

Initial intelligence assessment links the incident to the Al Qaeda affiliate Al-Shabaab which has active cells in the area.

Recently another IED decommissioned a Kenya army (KDF) troop carrier vehicle in Kiunga border point in Lamu County signaling presence of active militant cells in the region.

The 9 a.m. home-made IED explosion happened just 600 metres from Usalama camp in Kiunga division injuring excavator operator and AP security officers on Usalama road where the border wall is being built to bar militant infiltration from Somalia.

Operation to clear Al-Shabaab elements in Boni forest under the Operation Linda Nchi continues to record gains, several militant's dens and weaponry have been destroyed.
