Burundi’s Opposition Leader Alexis Sinduhije to be arrested

Burundi’s prosecutor general has issued an arrest warrant for MSD chairman Alexis Sinduhije.

The Burundi opposition party leader Alexis Sinduhije is accused of instigating political violence that led to clashes with the police in Bujumbura.

Movement for Solidarity and Democracy (MSD) party, part of the Alliance for Democratic Change (ADC) members engaged police in a violent confrontation Saturday.

Burundi authorities arrested and detained 50 MSD members besides accusing Opposition Leader Alexis Sinduhije of leading a rebel movement in the country.

The United States has warned both the government and the opposition against stoking violence that can destabilize the nation.

Burundi is facing the worst political crisis since emerging from a civil war in 2005.
