4 Burundi Nationals En route to Join Al-Shabaab Arrested in Isiolo

Police reports indicate that four Burundi nationals were arrested at Merire area along Isiolo-Marsabit Highway Tuesday.

The four were arrested en route to join Al-Shabaab terrorist group in Somalia. Police noted that the assailants had traveled from Bujumbura to Kenya in guise as tourists.

The four then embarked on a journey that would take them through Isiolo, Mandera and later cross to Somalia.

At around 4.a.m in the morning, they were stopped by police officers who were manning a roadblock just a few kilometers to Isiolo town.

Upon being grilled they confessed that they were on their way to Somalia to join the terror group.

They were whisked into police custody for further interrogation.

In June, a group of five Kenyan youths were intercepted and arrested in the same area while headed for Somalia to join the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
