1st February 2016, six mortar shells hit the vicinity of Somalia’s presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu killing at least one person.
According to a local police identified as Shire Salad, the attack claimed by the Al Qaeda affiliated militants happened on Monday where the militant fired six mortars at Villa Somalia in the south of the city of Mogadishu. The attack also left six other people wounded when the mortar shells struck their houses.
The Somali based jihadist group has been fighting the Somali government for many years with an aim to topple its leadership and instill strict Islamist Sharia Law.
The militants also thrive on propaganda aided by their online broadcaster channels.
While the militants have lost territory since being driven out of Mogadishu in 2011 by government and African Union forces, they continue to stage deadly gun and bomb attacks.
