EVENT SUMMARY
Latest military reports from Somalia indicate that 26 fighters from Al-Shabaab terrorist group were arrested in NISA operation in Mogadishu.
The Thursday 18th February 2016 NISA swoop also saw another 300 Al-Shabaab suspects also nabbed in a successful operation in two Mogadishu neighbourhoods.
While briefing the media Banadir regional administration’s spokesman Abdifatah Halane said the operation has gained momentum in Heliwa and Yaqshiid districts of Mogadishu.
“The operation has been successful and we can comfortably say we have today dismantled Al-shabaab terror cells in Mogadishu. We will not rest until we clear Banadir region of UGUS and their remnants” Halane was quoted saying.
The operation was made successful from the contribution of Mayor of Mogadishu and Banadir regional commissioner Yussuf Hassan Jimale and senior NISA officials.
NISA which was leading the operation thanked members of the public for their collaboration with security agencies during the door to door exercise.
26 admitted to be members of the Al-Shabaab and are being interrogated further to give more information on Al-Shabaab activities and cells in Mogadishu and its surrounding.
