The Kenya Navy is the maritime arm of the Kenyan military forces with officers who have devoted themselves to safeguard Kenya at sea.
Their service has been commendable since 12th December 1964 when the Kenya Navy operations was first established.
Specially trained to engage in symmetrical warfare, the Kenya Navy operations have been designed to operate as a navy and equally perform coast guard duties. The training takes place both locally and internationally thus gives the team the ability to carry out its mandate in an extra ordinary manner along the Kenya maritime zone.
Kenya Navy operations are conducted under the leadership of Major-General Ngewa Mukala who oversees the operations to their success ensuring that the navy’s mission is accomplished.
Other operations conducted by this branch include policing Kenyan waters, dealing with issues of piracy, protecting the country against sea-borne aggression and any other contraband issues (issues involving illegal imports to Kenya through the sea).
Under good quality instructors who train the officers in conducting the Kenya Navy operations along Kenya’s territorial waters, the officers are well trained in the different departments to provide naval operations on selected sites with a mission to protect Kenya.
Kenya Navy operations were heavily felt when they first attacked the port of Kismayo in Somalia in the fight against terrorism. The team, which was well equipped for the operations carried with them their naval land forces to pave way for the Kismayo operation.
There were divers who were responsible for clearing the beach and sophisticated boats which were to continuously protect the port of Kismayo once the Kenya Navy landed in Somalia.
The Kenya Navy operations team which has prevented Kenya’s enemies from venturing into the sea conducted the first ever African amphibious landing along the port of Kismayo against the Al Shabaab militia group.
The team which prides in its military operations marked 50 years of serving Kenya in 2014. The event which was presided over by the Commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces commended the team for continuously showing their prowess in their battles.
