Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta in recent reshuffles in the Police Force has replaced Deputy Inspector General Grace Kaindi appointing GSU’s Joel Kitili as interim Deputy Inspector General.
Joel Kitili will take office with immediate effect and hold the office until the entire process of appointing a new DIG takes place. Grace Kaindi has however been appointed to an ambassadorial position with the location to be confirmed at a later date.
Kitili has amassed valuable experience in the security agencies in Kenya having headed the presidential escort unit before moving to the General Service Unit as Commandant. Under his tenure the GSU RECCE squadron showed its expertise by ending the Garissa University College Massacre. Most recently he was tasked with the highly publicized crackdown on second generation illicit brew in Central parts of Kenya.
President Uhuru made the reshuffles after a lengthy meeting with National Police Service Commission (NPSC) at State House, Mombasa which was confirmed by its chairman Johnston Kavuludi.
Ambassador Martin Kimani was named as the Director of National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) where he replaces Isaac Ochieng who was also appointed as an ambassador in major attempts to consolidate efforts to curb terrorism and violent extremism in Kenya.
The appointments are in line with recent announcement of police structural overhaul to improve the efficiency, service delivery and war against terrorism and violent extremism.
