The government of Kenya has extended the amnesty offered to Muslim youth who are ready to disengage with al Shabaab. According to statements issued by the Ministry of Internal Security, the offer of unconditional amnesty is applicable to all Muslim youths who had joined al Shabaab but are now willing to denounce their association with the terror group and terrorism in general.
The Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, Joseph Nkaissery, has called upon all willing youth to report to nearby state offices within the next ten days; and in return, the government will grant them unconditional amnesty alongside sound reintegration support.
Legions of poor and disgruntled Muslim youths were radicalized in Kenya prior to them joining the Somalia-based terror group, al Shabaab; where they were indoctrinated with the ideology of violent Jihad and takfiri Islamism which have led them to commit numerous senseless killings as well as disrupt social life both in Kenya and Somalia. Nkaissery revealed that many Kenyan youth have died fighting alongside al Shabaab.
Nkaissery also stated that most returning youth eager to disengage with Islamic extremism should be re-integrated through a de-radicalization program that would be supported by both the state and community-based organizations.
