Somalia’s government on Thursday 3rd September 2015 passed a motion to sack Somali National Army Major General Dahir Adan Elmi from office after two years of service.
Gen Mohamed Aden Ahmed comes in fresh to replace the fired commander as the new army chief. This is to improve the performance of the struggling Somali army which is backed by AU troops
Somalia is committed to strengthening her military as the war on Al Shabaab terror group intensifies. The change in command is part of the government drive to instill a new command in the process of integrating and strengthen the National Army.
Gen Mohamed Aden Ahmed
General Mohamed Aden Ahmed has a wealth of experience and formidable background to bring into his new post as the head of the Somali National Army.
General Ahmed graduated from the Military Academy in Egypt. He also trained in the Command and General Staff from Moscow, and also War College and Strategic Studies in USA.
He previously served in numerous posts in the National Armed Forces such as the Commander of the Parachute Commandos Battalion in Ballidoogle. He has also served as Division Commander respectively in Belet Weyne, Baidoa and Dhusa Mareeb.
General Ahmed also has the experience of participating in Joint Forces Exercise with forces from Russia, Egypt and USA.
With this vast experience coupled with capable backing of a regional force, General Ahmed is expected to bring the Somali National Army back to its feet as the country struggles to battle out Al Shabaab.
