The Boko Haram now call themselves the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP), as the group struggle to make their pledge of allegiance to the Islamic State tighter.
Boko Haram has been characteristic of Nigeria’s north eastern part, and last month, the group made an allegiance to the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, a request which the latter accepted.
On accepting the pledge of allegiance, ISIS gave Boko Haram its first foothold in sub-Saharan Africa in its efforts to create a global caliphate.
Boko Haram and the Islamic State are two groups but they believe the same thing based on their ideology which calls for them to persecute Christians, push Christians out, to restrict freedom of religion, and other freedoms, as well, for the general population.

Boko Haram is a nickname, given to the group by Nigerians when it was formed in 2002. In Hausa, it is roughly translated, “Western education is forbidden.”
Intelligence sources have estimated that the move to come under ISIS means Boko Haram, now ISWAP, will be more deadly.
The group’s tactics could change and give the conflict in Nigeria a new dimension which could prove hard to fight, the sources have revealed.
Religious leaders have encouraged the public to pray that God would protect His people, and also for the minds and the strategy of Boko Haram the Islamic State to be foiled.
