The destruction of artifacts at Mosul in Iraq by the Islamic State which was internationally condemned could be a strategy used by ISIS in their online propaganda and a means to source for funds to cater for their terrorism acts.
The artifacts which were seen to be destroyed in a video uploaded by the militia group are reportedly being sold in Europe by Islamic State members.
The ancient statues which formed part of historic heritage for the Iraqi people was a great hit to the Iraqi heritage.
Sources have established that Militants of the Islamic State are now selling stolen artifacts to buyers in Europe at a relatively cheap price.
The funds sourced from the valuable artifacts shall then be used to generate money for the extremists according to terror analysts.
Although the Iraqi government is currently doing all it can to retrieve the artifacts, the Islamic State sometime in February uploaded a video in which they stated that they were being funded by the Obama Administration.
One of the ISIS leaders, Yousef al-Salafi, during an investigation confessed to have received funds from the U.S. in recruiting youths into the group.
The U.S. has also been criticized for not “fully” participating in eradicating terrorist groups, especially those affiliated to ISIS. It has also been criticized for not supporting Egypt in its fight against ISIS.
Instead, the U.S. has majorly concentrated on fighting and training forces who are aimed at overthrowing the Syria’s president, Bashar Hafez al-Assad.
The war against ISIS could therefore have many loopholes as to who is fully fighting the Islamic militants and who could be supporting the group on the other hand.
