The Somali government announced that the wife of the leader of Daesh in Somalia, Abdulkadir Mu’min, was sentenced to military prison. Fartun Abdirashid Hussein, the wife of Abdulqadir Mu’min, was sentenced to eight years in military prison.
The military court found that Fartun, who used the aliases Fa’isa, Asiya, and Faysa, was the wife of the branch’s leader, Abdulkadir Mumuin, and was in charge of the group’s financial operations. She was also charged with housing and offering refuge to members of the terror organization.
Fartun, who was arrested in Mogadishu, among other charges was accused of having a working relationship with the recently killed Bilal Al-Sudani. According to the Prosecutor’s Office, Fartun was in charge of Daesh’s financial affairs and regularly transferred money between $100-200 dollars to Daesh through her phone.
The ruling constitutes another setback for the Islamic State in Somalia following the killing of al-Sudani. And while the Somali government considers the threat posed by the group as minimal intelligence indicating that the group’s regional role in the running of the ISIS caliphate in Africa cannot be ignored.
