Sunbird-1 well drilled onshore by Australian oil and gas explorer Pancontinental Oil and Gas NL is not commercially viable but promising, the company has announced.
Australian listed petroleum exploration company Pancontinental Oil and Gas NL reports that traces of gas at the well are promising but current find is not commercially dashing hope for gas production in Kenya.
Sunbird-1 farm is offshore on Block 10-A in Lamu Kenya.
The actual report according to Australian Pancontinental Oil and Gas NL reads that the company encountered intersected a hydrocarbon-bearing zone in the top of the Sunbird Miocene Pinnacle Reef.
The top of the Sunbird Miocene Pinnacle Reef was reached at 5,195 feet (1,583.7 meters) subsea. The water depth is 2,372 feet (723 meters).
The 143 foot (43.6 meter) gross hydrocarbon bearing zone is currently assessed to contain a net pay thickness of 91 foot (27.8 meter). In this case, net pay is defined as the cumulative thickness of zones having porosity of 10 percent or greater.
