Kenya, the biggest economy in East and Central Africa will recruit up to 10,000 police officers to combat runaway crime in the country.
The threat of terror and the increasing levels of urban crime besides the internal human conflicts in less developed areas is a key challenge that needs more policing.
The current number of police officers in the country is very small compared to the volume of internal security threats.
While the government is looking for partnerships to build capacity in the police force, modernizing policing is also a priority.
The government is committed to increase it’s police force with an additional 10000 who will be recruited throughout the 2014 financial year.
The plans were also confirmed by the country deputy president who has continued to talk tough on terror and insecurity in the country.
Terrorism has increased besides crippled the tourism industry which ranks as one of the three top economic drivers of the East African super power.
