The Taliban seems to be desperate for global recognitions and says by not recognizing the new government in Afghanistan is benefiting Islamic State Khorasan (ISIS-K).
However, Taliban maintains its in control of Afghan new administration and downplayed ISIS-K terrorist group as a major threat to Afghanistan.
Taliban developments comes after the ISIS-K claimed responsibility for Friday’s Shia Mosque suicide explosion in Kandahar that left 47 people killed and 70 others suffered injuries. ISIS-K has claimed a number of operations in recent weeks against religious institutions in Afghanistan, including last week’s attack against the Gozar-e-Sayed Abad Mosque in Kunduz.
According to the Taliban’s acting foreign minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, official recognition of his government and international aid held great importance to the recovery of the country’s economy. On his part, Taliban minister also lamented that the freezing of Afghan foreign reserves by the US violated international law and human rights. Taliban seeking global recognition also comes with a thinly veiled cry for help.
After Friday’s blast, the Taliban had vowed to deploy more forces to protect Shi’ite mosques and noted that its ready to work alongside the local volunteers to ensure the security of the mosques.
In the meantime, ISIS in a statement promoted via its propaganda media channels reiterated that that Shi’ite Muslims are perilous and they will be targeted by them everywhere. ISIS through the group’s weekly Al-Naba publication warned of more attacks in the coming days targeting the Shia Muslims in their homes and centres. The statement was a threat especially Shia Muslims living in Afghanistan
