The Al-Qaeda affiliated Harakat Al-Shabaab operating in Somalia continue to deal blows from coordinated military operations aimed at degrading the Islamist militant group that persistently fight Federal Government forces with an intention of toppling the Somalia government.
In an intelligence-led military operation, at least seven Al-Shabaab operatives were killed in a sting security operation that was carried out in Lower Shabelle region, southern prefectures of Somalia Monday evening.
According to military intelligence sources, three Al-Shabaab leaders were among those killed during the operation in Busley and Bulo-Alundi villages under the Janale area of Lower Shabelle. The sources further reported that several terror operatives were wounded and their hideouts were destroyed in operations after the army received intelligence of Al-Shabaab’s presence in those locations.
The military officials reiterated that the security operation will be intensified in the area to flush and wipe out Al-Shabaab fighters who often carry out roadside attacks against SNA and coalition allied forces in the southern regions of Somalia.
Harakat al Shabaab al Mujahideen (HSM) militant group has intensified attacks in Somalia despite government forces having made intensive counter-operations against the insurgents in central and southern regions in recent months in an attempt to flush out and degrading Al-Shabaab’s budding cells.
