Counterterrorism operations (CT-Ops) continue to mount concerted pressure on the Islamist Al-Shabaab militants especially in the central region of Somalia that in the past few months has become a terror hotbed for the militant’s activities.
Somalia military sources resources on November 7 reported that at least 14 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed and 15 others injured in a fierce close quarter battle in the Galgadud region, central Somalia.
The military sources further reported that joint troops launched an intelligence raid on the Al-Qaeda aligned Al-Shabaab’s hideouts and inflicted casualties on the militants.
The army troops also recovered weapons and ammunition from the terror militants.
Somalia’s southern and central regions have witnessed clashes between Somalia government forces and Al-Shabab extremists for several years. CT-Ops from joint coalition partner forces have dealt huge blows to the militant group but nonetheless, the situation in this region of Somalia remains fluid.
Military chiefs have insisted that the war on Al-Shabaab can only be won if residents work closely with the security assets noting intelligence provided by the locals (HUMINT) supports military actions in degrading the Islamist militants from across the Somalia.
