Sudan’s Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok on Monday 10th March 2020 survived an assassination attempt after a blast near his convoy in the capital, Khartoum.
The PM wrote on Twitter handle that he was “safe and in good shape” following Monday’s explosion noting that, such incidents will not stop the path of change but will only propel the strong waves of the revolution.
PM Abdalla Hamdok became Sudan’s prime minister in August, 2019 months after a pro-democracy movement forced the army to oust the longtime President Bashar al-Bashir.
Hamdok shared a photo of himself smiling and seated at his desk, while a TV behind him showed news coverage reporting he had survived. Officials from his offices told media that the attack happened as the prime minister was heading to his office.
The footage posted online showed two damaged white vehicles used by Sudan’s top officials parked on a street and another vehicle that was badly damaged in the blast.

Sudan’s Security Council issued a statement condemning the attack, saying it would seek help from Sudan’s friendly countries to find those involved and subsequently bring them to justice.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
