Nigerian air force killed over a dozen Boko Haram militants who were reportedly regrouping at Bukar Meram, a town in Nigeria’s northeastern state of Borno bordering Lake Chad.
According to the Air Force spokesman, the operation was conducted on Monday following on credible intelligence tip-off from locals that the militants were regrouping in the area.
Credible intelligence reports indicated a resumption of the use of the location to provide logistics support to the terrorists, using fishing activities as a cover.
The air force then deployed its light attack aircraft to engage designated areas within the settlement.
Before the air raids, over 35 Boko Haram militants were sighted within the area of interest. The air force aircraft subsequently engaged the location in successive passes recording precision strikes on the target area.
The northeast region has been destabilized for over a decade by Boko Haram, which most notoriously kidnapped hundreds of schoolgirls in 2014.
