Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has announced that its officers seized improvised explosive devices (IEDs) following security operation. The security mop-up took place on Wednesday night in the Mogadishu’s outskirt vicinity of Elasha-Biyaha.
The intelligence officers arrested an al-Shabaab suspect during the operation targeting neighborhood on the outskirts of Somali capital as well as recovered IED bombs, grenades, pistols, and phones.
In a statement by NISA, 10 IEDs meant to fix vehicles, 10 mobile phones and 8 hand grenades (F1s) were recovered in the bust that has been seeking to end violent car and suicide bombings in Somalia’s capital, Mogadishu.
The development comes barely 4 days after Somali forces found underground Arsenal-like sites in the same area comprising of grenades, cartridges, suicide belts, remote detonators, ammunition, wires, and substances used for IEDs. Security checkpoints have been set up in various parts of Mogadishu in an attempt to make sure that al Shabaab which is facing internal wrangles, as well as opposition from IS-Somalia, doesn’t conduct more attacks in the city.
