Spain has launched a new counter-terrorism strategy that focuses specifically on ISIS and Al Qaeda. The plan targets conflict zones, prisons where people become radicalized and domestic terror cells. The strategy comes at a time when many Jihadists are expected to return to Spain, as the US ends its military presence in Syria.
The counterterrorism strategies come as the threat posed by Islamists in Europe is on a steady rise. Also, it comes after an ISIS terrorist was arrested in Andalucia in January after he plotted to bomb Manilva Fair.
European countries have been enhancing their counterterrorism measures mainly because most of the terrorist attacks committed in Europe were done by people radicalized in their own countries. Additionally, Spain has been on the receiving end of immigrants from African north where there is the presence of different Jihadi groups and as such the policies couldn’t come at a better time.
