Iranian ambassador to Kenya, Hadi Farajvand, on Monday 25th February 2019 addressed the sensational media report of ‘diplomatic row’ with Kenya over its arrested nationals.
The media reported that the Iranian envoy was trying to seek the release of the two Iranian terror suspects, Ahmad Abolfathi Mohammed and Sayed Mansour Mousavi, albeit under legal means.
The two were arrested by ATPU on suspicion of terrorist link after they were found filming and taking photos at the Israeli Embassy.
The suspects were linked bomb making material that was recovered in Mombasa in 2012.
The Iranian ambassador addressed the media revealing of individuals who were trying to extort him under the guise of being high ranking Interior ministry officials. Faravjand asserted that he alerted the DCI.
The two alleged extortionists were brought to the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) headquarters for questioning.
Media had reported that the ambassador was captured on camera while purchasing airline tickets claimed were for the terror suspects but he cleared the air that he was at the airline office on Riverside Drive to get his own personal tickets.
The Iranian ambassador claimed that there countries working overtime to ensure Iran and Kenya relations are in squabble but refused to name the countries.
“I can’t say which country, but we definitely believe that there are some countries that do not like Iran and Kenya to have good relations,” he added.
