Coalition forces in Syria have launched fresh airstrikes against ISIS positions in the eastern village of Baghuz a few hours after over 2000 civilians were evacuated. Coalition warplanes hit several targets on the western front to disorient the ISIS terrorist and as such allow for the evacuation by ground troops of other ISIS families trapped with the terrorists as well as being used as human shields.
While there is still heavy jihadists presence in the village, the militants are running low on supplies such as ammunition and medicine hinting at a sooner-than-expected defeat of the terror organization.
Complicating efforts, SDF officials and observers on the ground say IS fighters, either from Baghuz or from sleeper cells located nearby, have launched a series of counterattacks on the outskirts of Baghuz and in nearby areas.
Coalition forces remain optimistic of the defeat in the next few days as intelligence indicates that the forces will defeat the fighters. However, the fight appears to be far from over as U.S. defense and intelligence officials warn up to 30,000 IS fighters are still spread across the two countries and could regroup and reestablish another caliphate.
