Uganda Police deployed another contingent to Somalia in an effort to boost security in the war-torn nation under AMISOM.
According to Uganda Police Force, Director of Peace Support Operations, Grace Turyagumanawe, a small unit of 13 police officers were flagged off to the peace-keeping mission in Somalia and were urged to observe discipline while in their line of duty.
“Keep the same good standards of discipline as you go to serve in peace operations. Follow the United Nations and African Union codes of conduct,” Turyagumanawe said during the briefing function at Police Headquarters in Naguru Kampala.
The officers are expected to spend at least one year on their tour of duty in Somalia.
Uganda has been deploying police officers in Somalia since 2012. Other countries contributing Police Officers to the peace-keeping mission in Somalia include; Kenya, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Zambia.
