The Danish government will provide 308 million kroner ($47 million) to the Afghan police and military over the next three years. The monies will be used to equip the Afghani police with the necessary skills to combat corruption and restore peace in the country.
According to the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Denmark will offer extra funds through 2020 for training and other costs associated with the police and the military. The Danish sides said that a peaceful Afghanistan is a very important key for countering migration and terrorist threats against the West, Europe, and Denmark.
Denmark has been financially supporting the Afghan police for ten years in efforts that have improved the police force and as such the additional support will ensure that the force is largely impacted ad rehabilitated. Afghanistan has been dealing with a wide range of terrorists groups, rebel groups and militias that have been undermining the peace,security and stability of the Middle Eastern nation.
Denmark has had soldiers in Afghanistan since 2002. According to the Ministry of Defense, there are roughly 160 Danes currently stationed in Afghanistan, with the majority of them in the country’s northern region and in the Kabul area. The Danish military personnel primarily train and advise Afghan security forces.
