U.S. in support of Somali National Army (SNA) conducted an airstrike in self-defense after it forces and allied forces came under attack in Somalia over on September 21.
The U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) confirmed that U.S. forces conducted air assaults targeting Al-Shabaab militants some 50 kilometers northwest of Kismayo, Lower Jubba region, southern Somalia.
According to the military battle damage assessment, eighteen (18) Al-Shabaab terrorists were killed in the strike while two (2) other terrorists were killed by Somali forces with small arms in a close battle engagement bringing the total of killed Al-Shabaab terrorists to twenty (20) over the past weekend.
AFRICOM also indicated that no civilians were injured or killed in the airstrike.
U.S. continues to conduct air raids in support of the Somali National Army and other African Union forces (AMISOM) in its counterterrorism efforts against the Al-Qaeda affiliated Al-Shabaab.
With a small force of about 500 soldiers, U.S., AMISOM and SNA joint operations targets Al-Shabaab terrorists, their training camps, and their hiding dens across Somalia and the region.
