U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) has confirmed that U.S. forces conducted an airstrike during a joint military operation with Somali forces against the Al-Qaeda linked Al-Shabaab terrorist group on September 11, 2018 in the central Somali village of Mubarak, about 37 miles west of Mogadishu.
The U.S. air bombardment was conducted against the enemy fighting position in self defense after U.S. and allied partner forces came under attack.
Initial military intelligence BDA indicate that two terrorists were killed and others were wounded in the strike.
No civilians were injured or killed in this air raid, AFRICOM press release clarified.
Also, no U.S. personnel were injured or killed and all were accounted for following this clash. However, one member of Somali security forces was killed in the operation and two others wounded in the close battle action.
U.S. forces reiterates that it will continue to use all authorized and appropriate measures with AMISOM and Somali security forces in joint counterterrorism operations targeting terrorists, their training bases and camps, as well their safe havens across Somalia and the region.
